Elevation Series

In this body of work I explored the mark an object makes upon the wearer and viewer alike, with a particular focus on the register of place. Through the objects I examined how place, in this case Brisbane, has patterned my thinking and influenced making. In the making process I explored Brisbane by walking the streets and recording her experiences within the Central Business District (CBD).
 
The objects are records of my explorations. By choosing prominent building facades on my explorations I used their elevations as a “canvas” to sketch the streetscapes directly onto the elevations. The sketches are made on the street where the building stands. Making in place. The sketches are then etched and filled with hues that take inspiration from the original facade. In my explorations I sought to discover what makes Brisbane unique, to investigate why and respond to her findings through observing, documenting and making. These objects reference Robertson Street (Fortitude Valley), Montague Street (South Brisbane) and Victoria Street (Spring Hill)
