Making Place Solo Exhibition

Making Place

From the moment I relocated to Brisbane in 2015 I began to find my feet in my new city of Brisbane by walking the streets. I embraced Brisbane’s topography, immersed myself in the city and embarked on a journey of discovery. With my background in architecture and jewellery making, I have an eye for forms both macro and micro, and my fresh perspective on our River City means I see detail – colours, pattern, shapes and lines that reflect Brisbane.

The Making Place exhibition is a result of what I observed on my explorations. A collection of contemporary jewellery and small objects that examine the colour of the Jacaranda and Poinciana trees; the patterns created on the foot paths as well as on the buildings of the city; the shapes of facades, the lines of streets and cityscapes.

On one level, Making Placeis for those who live in and love Brisbane. Those viewers will have the lived experience to recognize the particular places and details that are captured in the artworks. On another level, the exhibition invites the gaze and interaction of travelers and tourists, asking them to see the elements that make our city – that make our place.
